Design Vanguard 2008

Submission deadline is August 11

Every December, ARCHITECTURAL RECORD publishes its Design Vanguard issue, featuring the work of 10 emerging architects/firms from around the world. Although we do not have a specific age limit for candidates, we tend to select architects who have been out of architectural school for 10 years or less. To be considered for this year's Design Vanguard, send a hardcopy portfolio (no larger than 15 x 20 inches) with 5-8 projects (both built and unbuilt), along with CVs of the firm's partners and a short statement of the firm's design approach/philosophy.

The cost to enter is $50. Please make checks payable to Architectural Record magazine. We will not accept payment in any foreign currency or credit cart charges; please send checks and money orders.

For our eighth annual selection of the world’s top emerging designers, RECORD finds a diverse group of firms that are committed to making architecture count

Looking at this year’s Design Vanguard winners, the first things you notice are the graceful lines and intriguing forms of the built work. You think: accomplished, thoughtful, pleasing. But dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover that this year’s group of 10 emerging designers is doing more than just making appealing architecture. Without a lot of fanfare or noise, these practitioners are engaging with issues larger than just form-making and are addressing audiences beyond the world of architects.
