AIA Responds to Executive Order Mandating Classical Design for Federal Architecture
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has responded to an Executive order recently signed by President Trump, titled "Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture.” The order mandates a classical style for new or newly renovated Federal buildings in Washington, D.C., and "encourages" the traditional style for public architecture elsewhere in the country.
“Communities should have the right and responsibility to decide for themselves what architectural design best fits their needs, and we look forward to working with President-Elect Biden to ensure that,” says AIA CEO Robert Ivy in a statement. “Though we are appalled with the administration’s decision to move forward with the design mandate, we are happy the order isn’t as far reaching as previously thought.”
