Triumphing over shortlisted proposals from firms including SANAA, Herzog & de Meuron, and Adjaye Associates, the Chipperfield revamp extends the existing museum to the street and incorporates a rooftop park. 

This month's dates and events includes an exhibition of the colorful work of British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori at the Design Museum in London.

With the death toll now surpassing 40,000, response efforts have been hampered by damage to critical infrastructure.
