The past few weeks have been busy ones for architecture aficionados in Chicago. The end of May saw the much-anticipated opening of Renzo Piano’s Modern Wing at the Art Institute. Concurrently, the city has been celebrating the centennial of Daniel Burnham’s Plan of Chicago with a series of lectures and exhibits. The Burnham Pavilions in Millennium Park, designed by UN Studio and Zaha Hadid, will temporarily add to the already exuberant architecture there, even if construction of Zaha’s is running late. All the while, the city is forging ahead with its bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games despite some recent controversy.

Somewhat lost in the mix is a delightful exhibit at the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) called Chicago Model City, which includes a large-scale model of Chicago’s Loop—designed to be a permanent attraction and centerpiece of CAF.
