A few months ago, my friend Paulynn Cue—who has a wonderful way of connecting people and ideas not normally found together—asked me to moderate a panel discussion entitled “Imagination at Play: Replay Your World.” I wasn’t really sure what that meant, but I knew Paulynn would make it interesting. Well, the event takes place tomorrow (Oct. 21) in the Bartos Theater at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and I’m still trying to get my mind around the topic. Paola Antonelli (curator extraordinaire at MoMA), Diana Lind (editor of the magazine Next American City and a former editor of Record), and Katie Salen (executive director of Quest to Play and the Institute of Play and a professor at Parsons) will do most of the talking, prodded by questions from me and the audience. The panel discussion is part of a series of events called 5D: Design Is Change, which is taking place in Los Angeles and New York over the course of the year. The more I think about the topic, the more I like the possibilities it raises for a lively conversation. For more information or to register, contact: 5D@designischange.org
