It was ten years ago tomorrow that Enric Miralles passed away. I remember the day vividly. I was studying architecture in Barcelona that summer. Our professor—like most architects in Barcelona—was a friend and admirer of Miralles. He had taken the studio to visit many of Miralles' projects, scattered throughout the Catalan city and its surrounding countryside. We all knew that Miralles was sick, but the day he succumbed to a brain tumor was a crushing one. Miralles was a truly original force in architecture. His influence on our studio was enormous, his architectural legacy even greater.
