Though it is located in lower Manhattan, New York's Skyscraper Museum escaped the worst of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy. The power was out at its Battery Park City location for two weeks, but the museum is up and running again, with the exhibition "Urban Fabric: Building New York's Garment District" on view through January 20, 2013.

If you're in New York City over the holidays, stop by to learn more about "the rich and little-known history" of "the largest concentration of skyscraper factories in the world" -- the 18 blocks that were the heart of New York's Garment District, from 35th to 41st Streets, from 7th to 9th Avenues.
