Spending his early career in Chicago pursuing a global practice at Perkins & Will, Joe moved to Denver as director of design and partner of a local 50-person firm in 1982. His leadership there on commissions led to more than 30 design awards. In 1994, he co-founded Humphries Poli Architects. As HPA’s director of design, Joe’s leadership has been instrumental in the business’s growth and reputation.

A dedicated proponent of his city and an advocate of the value of design, Joe is a leader in the profession. He is a charter member of the Chicago Architectural Club and a founding member of the Denver Architectural League. His designs have been featured in publications, museums, and galleries across the country, and garnered awards from AIA’s local, regional and national chapters. His drawings are in the permanent collections of the Walker Art Gallery, Frankfurt’s Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Chicago Historical Society.
