      <title>Elkhorn River Research Station</title>
      <description>
        <![CDATA[<p>
	The Elkhorn River Research Station could be mistaken for a rusting vestige of the steamboat days, left to disintegrate on the riverbank about 30 miles west of Omaha, like so many other industrial cast-offs.</p>
]]>

        <media:description type="plain">The open-air research station allows a few people to work comfortably inside. Architect Randy Brown designed a slit in the Cor-Ten steel panels to signify the 100-year floodplain. The Nebraska Natural Resources District mandated that the station sit above the line.

        <media:description type="plain">The architects perched the station on thin, galvanized steel tubes that have very little effect on the rise and flow of the river. A V-shaped observation deck deflects ice and logs that could damage the station if the water table reached that height.

        <![CDATA[Completion Date: March 2010 Owner: Jeff Herdzina, US DATA Corporation Program: A 5,000-square-foot office for an online data company, with a caf&eacute;, conference room, and gaming lounge. Design concept and solution: The architects wanted to convey the client's technological identity while boosting the office's already close-knit atmosphere. The new design features a large, open bullpen of workstations and a conference room bounded by a glass wall etched with numerical sequences to signify streams of data. A bright green wall, jutting and folding at changing angles, defines the circulation through the office like a kind of origami canopy, and divides the]]>
