
Architectural historian and urbanist Rosalie Genevro led The Architectural League of New York as executive director from February 1985 to June 2023. The League is a non-profit cultural organization based in New York City; its public programs, publications, exhibitions and research projects present the work of the world’s leading architects as well as emerging talents, and investigate and propose approaches to important issues in the built environment. Ms. Genevro inaugurated new programs at the League including the online publication Urban Omnibus, the multi-faceted projects American Roundtable, Architecture and… , Ten Shades of Green, and The Five Thousand Pound Life, as well as directing many projects on housing and a series of design studies that included Vacant Lots, New Schools for New York, The Productive Park, Envisioning East New York, Housing on the Edge, Making Room, and Re-envisioning Branch Libraries. She has served as a peer reviewer for the NYC Departments of Design and Construction, City Planning, Cultural Affairs, and Parks and Recreation, and as a critic and juror for many architecture school juries and prize competitions. Ms. Genevro received an Arts and Letters Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2015. She is an adjunct faculty member in the New York/Paris program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Earlier in her career she served as research director of Advisory Services for Better Housing, a non-profit that analyzed and improved housing projects and programs in New York City. Ms. Genevro studied history and architectural history at Occidental College and Cornell University. .
