Dado Group
Site size: 1.014-acre lot

Project size: 3,361 sf (conditioned space), 2,091 sf (unconditioned space)

Program: The team designed the first ground-up home in a new suburban Austin residential development using natural materials to integrate a contemporary design with rugged exterior spaces.

Location: The West Lake neighborhood of Austin, Texas

Solution: The home comprises two distinct programmatic wings: a public area for entertainment and communal gatherings and a private zone for the bedrooms and associated spaces. Unconditioned communal spaces connect the two perpendicular wings and provide a transition between inside and outside.

Construction and materials: A simple materials palette incorporates raw steel, pine, and stucco, and further connects the structure to its environment. The site’s rocky outcroppings and dense foliage from the surrounding groves of elm, oak, and cypress trees provide seclusion from the city.
