Topping a global pool of entries, Fernando Guerra’s image of EPFL’s Quartier Nord in Eclubens, Switzerland won Arcaid Images’ 2015 Architectural Photography Award. The winning photograph, announced Friday at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Singapore, features a dynamic moment on the terraces of Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés’ hybrid commercial/residential complex. Guerra will receive $3,000 as well as exhibition opportunities.

Born in Lisbon and trained as an architect, Fernando Guerra opened the Portugal-based photography studio FG+SG in 1999 with his brother, Sérgio Guerra.

According to Arcaid Images, this annual award spotlights photography that translates architecture into “a readable and understandable two dimensions.” An international panel of nine judges—including architects, photographers, critics, and curators—selected the winner and runners-up in several categories: Exteriors, Interiors, Sense of Place, and Buildings in Use. All of the shortlisted entries—featuring buildings in China, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka—will be featured in an exhibition opening on Feburary 5 at London’s Sto Werkstatt.
