Adaptive Reuse: When architects deploy space, light, and materials to bring modern design into historic structures, they create concretized shifts between moments in time that can be perceptually arresting. We explore 13 plays of history in structures that range from a palace in Beijing to a biscuit factory in downtown L.A. slideshow

Quarterly Interiors: We highlight interiors projects related to the museums featured in this month's Building Types Study section. Read about David Adjaye’s vision for a Manhattan gallery, Hartman-Cox’s restoration of a historic building in Washington, D.C., and FG Stijl’s design of four restaurants in the BMW Welt.

Record Interiors 2007: Six interiors by designers and firms including Ryuji Nakamura, John Pawson (Our lady of Novy Dvur, pictured), and Asymptote are featured in this year’s Record Interiors. The featured spaces reveal an eye for drama with a delicate touch, characterized by a pale and nuanced palette. You’ll also find seven Web-exclusive interiors, including slide shows and architect portraits.
