Rainscreen technology has been relatively static for several decades, with only modest improvements to installation systems and material selection. However, recent advancements by progressive manufacturers have introduced not only a wider range of available materials but also new mounting systems. These mounting systems offer an easier and faster process for installing rainscreens, as well complete training and support systems to better engage with contractors. Other changes in the rainscreen market include new surface materials like sintered ceramic, which is one of the most innovative materials in recent years. These materials are competitively priced, offer a host of unique features and benefits, and present attractive alternatives to traditional surfaces, such as stone, metals, and cement board.

This webinar will offer a basic overview of rainscreen technologies and discuss the important role they play in the building envelope. This content will also discuss some of the new surface material options available for rainscreens and how these can contribute to a durable and aesthetically unique design. Finally, this course will look at how specifying the most appropriate rainscreen product requires a comprehensive approach—one that extends beyond simple price, color, and texture comparisons and includes support, services, and customization from the manufacturer.

Learning Objectives - After this course, you should be able to:

  1. Discuss how modern rainscreens are a vital part of a water management system intended to work with the building envelope.
  2. List the common terms and definitions related to rainscreens and rainscreen mounting systems.
  3. Describe the most common types of materials used for rainscreens.
  4. Compare and contrast rainscreen installation methods, fasteners, and new attachment technologies.
  5. Evaluate and specify the most appropriate rainscreen systems and materials for projects.
