Ceilings have become another surface to customize, with lighting, acoustic, and three-dimensional options widening the design palette.

Intersection Downlighting

This solution, which pairs Armstrong Ceilings’ suspension systems with USAI Lighting’s Connect fixtures, allows architects to place recessed LEDs at framing intersections. Notched versions of Armstrong’s Calla ceiling panels allow the fit to be seamless as well as to provide a 0.85 NRC and 35 CAC. The pre-engineered system is code-compliant for projects that must address seismic design criteria for categories D, E, and F.

Levels

The latest additions to Hunter Douglas’s Tavola line of baffles vary in height and width, allowing designers to create unique ceiling topographies. The Class A fire-rated product comes in six perforation patterns that offer a total NRC of 0.6 to 1.0. Made of recycled aluminum, the pieces may be powder-coated or specified with wood veneer. They also are Greenguard Gold–certified.

Exterior Suspension System

For use with USG’s Celebration Torsion Spring panels, this G90 hot-dipped, galvanized-steel grid system suits outdoor and wind-uplift applications. It conforms to ASTM C635, contains greater than 50% recycled content, and meets all national code requirements for seismic and fire-rated assemblies. Stainless-steel clips and a polyester-paint finish further protect the sturdy system from corrosion.

QuickSpan

CertainTeed’s ceiling grid system supports drywall spans up to 12'—the longest in the industry. The galvanized-metal cross tees and locking channels snap into place with an audible click; no additional hanger wires are needed. Pieces come in standard and custom lengths, all with pre-engineered locking tabs punched every 8".

Focus Wall Slot

The low-profile slot luminaire provides a glowing transition between wall and ceiling, illuminating inside and outside corners. The 6" tall, rough-in steel housing accommodates shallow plenum grid and drywall ceilings. A separate LED module can be snapped in at any stage of construction. Available in five lumen options and four color temperatures.
