Venice Architecture Biennale 2004: Predock_Frane

Established in Santa Monica, California, in 2000 by John Frane and Hadrian Predock, Predock_Frane was featured in Architectural Recrd' s Design Vanguard 2002. The firm recently won a national AIA honor award for The Center of Gravity Foundation Hall–a Zen Buddhist Monastery in northern New Mexico. Current projects include the Central California Museum of History and a Kidspace for the J. Paul Getty Museum.
Called “Acqua Alta,” this project uses a “pixelated” field of 5,000 nearly invisible filaments to evoke the high-tide water patterns of flooding in Venice. The resulting space is meant to encourage contemplation, spirituality, and reflection by immersing visitors in the natural and evolutionary forces that shape this historic and mysterious city.
