Project size: 2,500 square feet

Program: The architect designed this house as his personal home. The rectilinear form is inspired by a floating opaque box. Located on the corner of a residential street, some of the main challenges were ensuring privacy from the neighbors and the street while still maintaining a dialogue with surrounding houses, and admitting as much natural light as possible. Various areas for socializing with friends and family are included in the program.

Location: Planalto Paulista, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Solution: The house establishes several relationships with its surroundings. At the ground level, fully glazed sliding doors open the house up to a walled-in patio, merging the tropical landscaping with the interior. At the upper level, the opposite occurs: mini-wave steel doors block direct sunlight, enhance privacy, and isolate noise from the street and a nearby airport. The roof garden on the third floor—one of the highest points in the neighborhood—allows for sweeping panoramic views.

Construction and materials: Steel construction
