The Biggest Design Show of the Year Is Happening Next Month: Here’s a Preview

Industrial designer Benjamin Hubert is collaborating with Spanish surfaces company Cosentino on a large-scale installation. “Raytrace” is a dramatic 78-foot triangular sculpture with patterns emulating the refraction of light through water. The installation is meant to create a visual demonstration of how ultra-compact Dekton can withstand the powerful forces of nature.

Italian furniture maker Moroso and German lighting company Ingo Maurer have launched a commercial partnership, which has given life to new design objects and will see the two brands exhibiting side by side for the first time.

Danish lighting brand Louis Poulsen introduces a new, large-scale pendant light designed by artist Olafur Eliasson. The light is composed of two contrasting geometric shapes, a rigid outer frame and a soft, layered interior. Says Eliasson, “Light has been central to my artistic practice for over twenty-five years. I keep returning to it and its many qualities as a source of inspiration.”

Ethimo, an Italian manufacturer specializing in outdoor furniture, expands its Swing collection by designer Patrick Norguet. The newest additions are a small armchair and high stool, both made with teak slats like the rest of the collection.

Carpet maker Radici presents a new printed wall-to-wall collection designed by Carolina Nisivoccia and based on the geometries of nature.

Living Divani celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019. Among its new pieces this year is the Floyd-Hi Bed by Piero Lissoni. The fabric or leather upholstery is fully removable by zippers and velcro fastenings.

The playfully geometric and colorful Planesit is the latest design by Lievore Altherr Valdés for Arper. The office chair features plush padding, a protective backrest, and wide armrests to accommodate a small tablet or smart phone.

Fritz Hansen has expanded its Suspence line of lighting, designed by Danish-Italian design duo GamFratesi, to include more sizes and fun new colors.
