The jury praised the Yokohama-based architect for “reminding us that in architecture, as in democracy, spaces must be created by the resolve of the people.”

Opening in April 2025, the minimalist building was commissioned by the State Department for the forthcoming world’s fair in Osaka. 

Designed by Tokyo-based o+h, the facility features a sunken gym, open play area, and ramped walkway that itself is part of the fun.
