In a nod to its predecessor—the 1932 viaduct, demolished in 2016—a new bridge dubbed the “Ribbon of Light” will feature 10 pairs of concrete arches.

The revitalization of Downtown Los Angeles remains a work in progress, with the area still a patchwork of commercial and residential towers, government and cultural facilities, light manufacturing, and parking lots. Lately, its momentum has turned to its eastern fringe, a once-industrial area now dubbed the Arts District. 

An architect and a nonprofit client work together for the third time to create housing for the formerly homeless, this time using prefabricated modules.

On land once inhabited by native Tongva people and, centuries later, by the Hughes Aircraft Company, the planned community of Playa Vista is gradually rising on Los Angeles’s West Side.
