This course covers the fundamental principles of porous paving systems, emphasizing their benefits in Low Impact Development (LID) initiatives due to their stormwater management abilities, urban heat island effect mitigation and other capabilities. Participants will learn about the different types of porous paving systems and how to assess them based on performance, maintenance, aesthetics and installation.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the fundamental principles of porous paving systems and how they facilitate stormwater infiltration.
- Evaluate the role of porous pavers in Low Impact Development (LID), including stormwater management and urban heat island mitigation.
- Compare different types of porous paving systems based on performance, maintenance, aesthetics, and installation requirements.
- Select and apply appropriate porous paving solutions based on site-specific conditions, while meeting stormwater regulations and contributing to green building certifications such as LEED and SITES.
