Charles Brooks, Rouben Mohiuddin, and Barry Long

On November 8, 2018 the small mountain town of Paradise, California was forever changed by the devastating Camp Fire that swept through the area. It took 28 days for the fire to be contained, but not before 153,000 acres burned, 85 died, 17 were injured, and 18,804 buildings destroyed. In 2010, Paradise had a population of 26,218. It’s estimated today that the town’s population is 4,478, or about 17% of the population before the Camp Fire nearly three years ago.

On this episode of the podcast, we talk with Charles Brooks (rebuildparadise.org - left), Rouben Mohiuddin (California State University, Chico - center), and Barry Long (Urban Design Associates - right) about the rebuilding efforts, what can be done to prevent such tragedies, and how architects can support communities that have been impacted by similar disasters.
