Architettura Matassoni

Site size: 14,100 sq. ft.
Project size: 7,000 sq. ft.

Program: The client’s preference for right angles and flat surfaces drove the design and prompted the architects to separate the massing and suspend volumes.

Location: Arezzo, Italy

Solution: The villa is organized around a central courtyard that combines stone and wood surfaces, plantings, and water features, and allows multiple views across the different volumes. The architects gradually deconstructed the volumes to create slender, lighter elements towards the outside.

Construction and materials: Around the perimeter, the concrete structure features double walls with a layer of insulation between them. Plaster finish typical of the Mediterranean is used for all vertical surfaces. Radiant and solar systems contribute to low energy consumption and walls with aluminum panel openings promote passive ventilation.
