Submit to Record Houses 2026
All entries must be submitted by the extended deadline of May 22, 2026

First established in 1956, the annual Record Houses issue showcases residential design that upends expectation, pushes disciplinary limits, and redefines established vocabularies in imaginative ways.
Submissions have concluded for the 2026 Architectural Record Record Houses issue. Winning projects will be selected by an editorial jury and featured in the September 2026 issue.
Submissions have concluded for 2026
DEADLINE
The extended submission deadline was May 22, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
ELIGIBILITY
- The competition is open to any architect registered in the U.S. or abroad.
- Preference will be given to projects that have not been published (online or in print). Previously published work will be evaluated at the discretion of the jury.
- Houses must have been completed within the last 24 months and inhabited.
- Houses may be new construction, renovations, or adaptive reuse projects.
- Entries must be approved by client for publication and, if selected, must be available for a visit by a writer or editor. Clients may opt to remain anonymous. A photo release form will be required for all winning projects.
SUBMISSIONS
Submissions for the 2026 Record Houses issue are now closed. Submitted portfolios were required to follow this format:
- 11 x 17 inch (or similar), horizontally oriented, multi-page PDF. There is no page limit but the file cannot exceed 10MB.
- Include a succinct project description (no more than 500 words) listing architect/firm name, program, brief, and location. Note any significant sustainable, technological, or material features.
- Include at least 15 high-quality, professionally photographed images. Limit the number of images and drawings per page so the jury can view the photographs clearly. Please note that the magazine does not cover photography licensing fees for this competition.
- Include labeled plans and sections with a visual scale and north arrow, plus any critical details or sketches.
Note: If your project has been completed but will not be photographed until just after the submission deadline, include ample in-house documentation and stipulate in the project description when professional photography will be available.
TIMELINE
The editorial jury will begin reviewing submissions in late May. Applicants will be notified of decisions by the end of July.
FEES
Entries must be accompanied by a credit card payment of $150 USD (then $50 USD for each additional project), payable after the upload has been completed.
