Architectural Products for Accessible Design

October 2018 Product Briefs: Accessible Design

Ada 25

This luminaire is based on a 1960s-era fixture by French architect Charlotte Perriand but named for its compliance with modern standards for accessibility. Ada 25 extends a family of sconces first introduced by Brendan Ravenhill Studio in 2016. This driverless LED measures 25" long, has a high color-rendering index of 90, and projects 3½" from walls. Recommended for use along corridors and walkways, rows of its fin-shaped reflectors can create a warm wayfinding glow indoors and out.

Embold

In partnership with contract-furnishings company Steelcase, manufacturer Embold has launched a collection of booth systems, tables, and chairs that accommodate users in a wide range of weight categories and age groups and add residential warmth to healthcare settings. The collection’s chairs feature backs, legs, and arms engineered for topple-proof support, and seats come in optional bariatric widths, with a moisture barrier beneath the contract-grade upholstery.

May qualify for learning hours through most Canadian architectural associations

Concrete is a rather ubiquitous, tested, proven, and versatile building material. It has been used for literally thousands of years to create long-lasting man-made structures of all types, including buildings. May qualify for learning hours through most Canadian architectural associations.
