Bob Weis, former president of Walt Disney Imagineering, joins Architectural Record’s DESIGN:ED Podcast to discuss how design influences human experience, storytelling through design, and how Disney shaped his view of architecture from his 40-year career with the company.
“What we Imagineers do is tell stories, but we tell them in physical space. You end up with a diagram of some sort, which then must have a building around it—and oftentimes, it’s not a very clean building. Most of the buildings that you would see at a Disney park are not meant to be seen from the outside but from the inside. This doesn't mean there aren’t very talented architects working on it. It just means that their goal is all the same, to tell the story, and has nothing to do with what the building is as an object.”
