Location: Mexico City
Project size: 6,480.5 square feet

Program: K Apartment is a primary home in Mexico City designed for a young family. Organized across multiple levels, the residence includes a double-height living and dining area, the family room, kitchen, and pantry. Totaling six bedrooms, the apartment includes a service area with staff quarters, guest bedrooms, children’s room, bathrooms, and the master suite with a walk-in closets, and a terrace that looks out over the urban context.

Design Solution: The design centers on wood as both material and spatial device. Rather than treating it only as a finish, the apartment uses continuous wood paneling to establish the visual identity and to organize its sequence of spaces. In the main living area, the wood rises into the double-height volume, where it is slightly detached from the vertical planes to create a scenographic effect that emphasizes scale, depth, and movement. This strategy extends through the dining area and family room, producing a sense of continuity across the more public spaces on the ground floor.

In the private areas, the approach shifts. Lower ceiling heights create a more intimate atmosphere, while wood is used in a more tactile and functional way, integrating storage, surfaces, and architectural details suited to daily family life. Travertine appears selectively as a counterpoint to the wood, adding tonal and textural contrast without competing with the project’s dominant material language. Together, the restrained palette, double-height spaces, built-in elements, and careful modulation of scale create an apartment defined by warmth, cohesion, and material depth.

Structure and Materials: The material palette is led by wood, used for paneling, ceilings, built-ins, storage, and architectural detailing throughout the apartment. Travertine marble is introduced as an accent in key elements, including surfaces and architectural volumes, providing contrast to the warmth and continuity of the wood. The drawings and images also show soft-toned wall finishes, pale flooring, integrated lighting, fabric curtains, and upholstered furnishings.
