An alternative to the ubiquitous hockey puck-like devices seen on most ceilings, the Modern Smoke Detector from Architectural Devices uses a patented design to lie recessed and flush-mounted to the surface of a wall or ceiling. The detector can be hardwired, hardwired with battery backup, or battery-powered, and can be made part of a whole building alarm system. The smoke detector uses recyclable plastic and a photoelectric sensor rather than older technology which contains small amounts of radioactive material. The detector is currently undergoing U.L.-testing and is expected to ship by the end of the year.
