According to architect Jacopo Mascheroni, people from the village of Brusino Arsizio, Switzerland (population 475), have been trying to get a glimpse of the house he designed for Nicoletta Messina, a financial consultant, and her family.

This 5,200-square-foot house and 960-square-foot pool house sit on an acre overlooking Tabbs Creek, a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay on the Northern Neck of Virginia.

With roots in Eastern Long Island's modernist design explorations of the 1950s and 1960s, the Amagansett House mingles functional simplicity with energy conservation.

This 5,800-square-foot residence, situated within a protected-oak meadow in the hills above the city of Sonoma, overlooks the owner’s private vineyard with panoramic bay views to the south.

Located in the woods near the owner’s main house, this one-room personal retreat is sculptural and abstract in its form, but traditional in use of materials.

Occupying the crest of a windblown bluff overlooking the Atlantic and nearby saltwater ponds, this four-bedroom, 6,850-square-foot summer house was intended to be reminiscent of the early camps in Martha’s Vineyard.

“I’m happy with my wife,” says Dutch architect Wiel Arets, “because we are comfortable together and yet she still challenges me.
