DIG:A

Project size: 2,400 square feet

Program: This house for a family of four is located a block away from the beach in the dense Seal Beach neighborhood. The clients desired a home that would provide enough space for their two young children to partake in various activities, and that would be flexible and adapt to their growth. They also wanted the ability to watch the kids from anywhere on the first floor.

Location: Seal Beach, California

Solution: The first floor features areas for family interaction and large gatherings; on this level, one’s presence can always be seen or heard. Three bedrooms, a study, office, and laundry area are located on the second floor. Two small courtyards funnel daylight into the two levels.

Construction and materials: The front of the house sits on a raised foundation; the rear is concrete slab on grade.  The house’s structural system is timber; it has a metal standing seam roof. Interior floors are walnut wood; the bathrooms feature porcelain tiles. All millwork is white oak.
