Architects & Firms

Vertebral

Location: Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico City, Mexico

Project size: 5,600 square feet

Program: A single-family house brings its lush surroundings into a spacious interior.

Solution: The path to enter the house from the urban streetscape gradually transitions into a verdant setting. Bamboo and ferns blur the plot’s boundaries. The concrete residence features floor-to-ceiling glazing on each of its three levels. Terraces open up the interior, merging it with the surrounding lush landscape. The library, living room, and kitchen are distributed across the ground level’s vast floor plate. Bedrooms at the upper two levels have views out to the tree tops. A green roof is partly shaded by a wood pergola.

Construction and materials: Exposed concrete ceilings and walls are complemented by wood surfaces throughout. Fully glazed sliding window panels with raw steel frames wrap around each floor’s perimeter, allowing the residents to control the house’s porosity.
