Judith Kinnard, FAIA, is an architect with a dual commitment to practice and teaching. She received her degree from Cornell University and has taught at Princeton University and Syracuse University. Her work has included numerous small-scale projects and more than a dozen national competitions dealing with larger scale issues. In 2010, she was elected president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.

Best New Architecture
930 Poydras
“Eskew Dumez + Ripple’s Residential Tower at 930 Poydras has a wonderful sky lobby overlooking Poydras.”

Lavin Bernick Center
“Vincent James’ Lavin Bernick Center at Tulane is a great addition to the campus.”

Best Historic Architecture
US Custom House
“Take note of the US Custom House on Canal at Decatur. This granite monolith has an amazing interior courtyard/atrium.”

Best Museums and Galleries
“I enjoy the Ogden Museum of Southern Art’s new Patrick F. Taylor Library by Barron/Toups. Its connected H.H. Richardson Library is in a lovely state of renovation. The sculpture garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art in City Park by Lee Ledbetter is also well worth a trip.”

Best Drinking, Dining, and Shopping
“Enjoy drinks on the porch at the Columns Hotel on St. Charles or in the courtyard of the Napoleon House on Chartres in the Quarter. Have lunch (weekdays) at Café Reconcile in OC Haley in Central City—great fried chicken and greens prepared by and served by young locals. For jewelry make sure to look for Robert Tannen’s shotgun and concrete block pendants at Mignon Faget on Magazine Street and Canal Place. For interesting clothing visit UAL on Chartres in the Quarter. For wonderful chocolates, macaroons and after dinner drinks and desserts try Sucre on Magazine in the Garden District.”
