This month, RECORD visits a truly varied mix of projects that serve as cultural anchors in their respective communities: a soviet-era cineplex reborn as a bustling—and first of its kind—arts center in the Kazakh metropolis of Almaty; Wellington, New Zealand’s new national archives that showcases Māori motifs alongside seismic resilience; a gallery expansion at a cultural center on Arizona’s Cocopah Reservation informed by indigenous construction techniques, a centuries-old Belgian abbey that, in its current iteration, serves as a small art museum; and a vertical soundstage for film and TV production that enlivens an industrial corner of Queens, New York.
