“My father wrestled with how to expand to the Pacific Design Center. He didn't want to do something that felt like an addition. It had to be this composition of things—different shapes with all these geometric abstractions, like three objects that don’t quite fit together. It became a very creative approach to thinking of them as three independent buildings. And it worked—he was pleased and relieved that it did. The Blue Building remained as a distinct, autonomous element while allowing the other buildings to become distinct, autonomous elements rather than just this ever-growing complex of one building being extended.”
