The 10 recipients of this year’s AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) Awards, announced today, range from a modern library in a Phoenix suburb to a spacious student affairs center at Tulane University in New Orleans. The committee selected the winners—each one an example excellence in sustainable design—from a pool of roughly 100 entries. According to an AIA press release, the jurors looked for projects that “make a positive contribution to their communities, improve comfort for building occupants, and reduce environmental impacts.” A list of the award winners follows below; look for complete coverage in the July 2008 issue of RECORD’s sister publication GreenSource.

Serving on this year’s jury were: Glenn Murcutt, Hon. FAIA, of Glenn Murcutt Architecture; Jason McLennan, AIA, CEO of the Cascadia Region Green Building Council; Susan T. Rodriguez, FAIA, of Polshek Partnership Architects; Gail Brager, PhD, a professor at University of California at Berkeley; Marvin Malecha, FAIA, 2009 president elect of the AIA and dean of the College of Design at North Carolina State University; and Rebecca Henn, AIA, a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan. The AIA will present the awards in May at its 2008 national convention in Boston.
