The Architects' Journal has released a delightful Top 10 list, The Architecture of Star Wars. It’s particularly interesting for the comparisons drawn between buildings in the movies and real life projects (the blog Life Without Buildings did something similar last year).

The list is worth a look, even if this fan thinks that the rankings are misguided. No mention of the magnificently decayed “hive of scum and villainy,” Mos Eisley Spaceport?

This sort of tongue-in-cheek, full-throttle geek analysis is nothing new. The official Star Wars blog notes that the June 1999 issue of Architectural Digest, Italian edition, contained an article on “the radical difference between the design styles of the Queen's Royal Starship and the living quarters of Anakin Skywalker and his mother” in the abysmal but gorgeous film The Phantom Menace.
