Guess the Architect: August 2025

A monthly contest from the editors of RECORD asks you to guess the architect for a work of historical importance.
Clue: Designed to showcase a novel filmmaking technology, this theater hosted the premieres of countless Hollywood films in the decades following its 1963 opening. The building, the work of a large firm that left its mark on numerous American cities, was the world’s first all-concrete geodesic dome. It consists of 316 individual panels and was assembled in just 16 weeks.
By entering, you have a chance to win a $500 Visa gift card. Deadline to enter is the last day of each month at 5:00pm EST.
Last month's answer: The Oita Medical Hall and Prefectural Library were designed by Arata Isozaki. Located on Japan’s southern Kyushu island, the two buildings represented critical early milestones for the architect: the medical center, completed in 1960, was designed independently while Isozaki was working for Kenzo Tange; the library, completed in 1966, was Isozaki’s first official public commission and enabled him to launch his own firm.
