Bologna, Italy

The 42nd edition of Cersaie, Italy’s preeminent salone of architectural ceramics and tile, took place in late September. Some 94,500 designers and related professionals attended the show, which featured 627 exhibitors from 29 countries. Here are RECORD’s picks of the most eye-catching products from this year’s installment.

Flautini
This year, Ceramica Vogue—a brand of Gruppo Bardelli—expanded its Flauti collection by adding a smaller 1" × 8" format, aptly named Flautini. The tiles arrive affixed to a 12" × 6" mesh in random arrangements of flat, concave, and convex surfaces, making installation easy. Flautini comes in a range of seven colors—from a deep maroon (pictured) to ochre.

Ghost
At Cersaie, companies showcase technological innovations in addition to new tile designs. Casalgrande Padana’s induction cooktops can be discreetly integrated into several ceramic surfaces from the company’s catalogue. There are two models: Silent (pictured), with a built-in extractor, and Invisible, set within a flashy ring of lights.

Cromo
These 2" × 10" ceramic tiles in 41zero42’s new Brutus collection feature a sleek chromatic glaze, which requires some extra care during installation to avoid scratches. But if asking “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?” isn’t for you (or your client), the collection also features two granite-look finishes, as well as a green marble one.

Milano Sublime
The Association for Industrial Design selected Coem’s Milano Sublime as the year’s best ceramic product. This faithful lookalike of the Candoglia marble used to construct the titular city’s cathedral and was developed in collaboration with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, founded in 1387. Like the stones they emulate, the tiles come in a variety of large-format sizes.

Settecento
Inspired by the stone holy water fonts of baroque churches, Settecento is a ceramic washbasin. Manufacturer Flaminia produces them in a suite of colors and silhouettes, including a shallow countertop version (pictured) and freestanding columnar ones.

Neoclassica
Many recent projects have shown that terrazzo is back in style, so take note of Neoclassica. This collection is available in seven color combinations that are designed to work in harmony with other of Cerdomus’s products. The tiles are available in large formats,
including 48" squares and 48" × 111" rectangles.

Forever Color
Cir Manifatture Ceramiche—part of Gruppo Romani since 1993—has introduced an 8" square porcelain tile with a circular glazing appliqué. The effect, especially in the presence of bright light, adds a cool retro feel to any space.

Flicker
This collection is not brand-new, but it holds up year after year. Realized in collaboration with industrial designer Simone Bonanni, these tiles have an indentation that takes grout, allowing for playful color combinations with a lot of texture.
