“I wanted it to feel like one place, one Temple Emanu-El, and not a before-and-after—a 1925 Temple Emanu-El and a 2025 Temple Emanu-El. I knew that the work we were doing had to have some elements of softness to it, so that we were deferential to the original building. That was the overarching motif, and I'm glad we did that.”
