From May 17–19, thousands of designers (and the simply curious) gathered under the glittery carapace of Manhattan’s Javits Center to attend the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), North America’s leading furniture and interior design trade show. Now in its 37th year, the show is an anchoring event of the NYCxDESIGN festival, which concluded May 20. This year’s theme, Common Ground: A Global Dialogue on Design and Shared Values, encouraged the ICFF exhibitors to present a diverse array of materials and artistic innovations.

Notable highlights included a showcase led by Jonsara Ruth of Parsons’ Healthy Materials Lab, a special presentation by Rarify with the Bauhaus Archive Berlin and German manufacturer Tecta, and live demonstrations by master artisans of Kyo-Yuzen dyeing and Maeda Danjiri wood carving.

This year, RECORD senior editor Matthew Marani judged the Outdoor class of the ICFF Editors Awards. The accolades recognize the top exhibitor booths across 12 categories, including lighting, furniture, flooring, and more.

Outdoor: British American Camping
"British American Camping inaugural collection, Low Camp, raises the bar for well-crafted and easily assembled outdoor gear. The debuted items, designed by Ben Huggins, include an aluminum-and-oak Adirondack chair, and a laser-cut steel triangular grill. Both are companions to the company’s K-Tent system, a lightweight and off-ground shelter suitable for myriad terrains. Altogether, British American Camping’s booth instilled a call of the wild for this desk-bound editor." – Matthew Marani

Starting in 2027, ICFF will shift its typical spring scheduling to the fall, with the 38th edition returning to the Javits Center from November 14–16. It will run concurrently with Boutique Design New York (BDNY), which is also held at the Javits Center.
