Record Houses 2025

Our Record Houses program—an eagerly awaited annual feature at RECORD for nearly 70 years—returns for its 2025 edition with a selection of dwellings that are more modest in scale than many past awardees. Yet all six of this year’s Record Houses—all of them primary residences—make their own big, bold moves that help to set them apart. On the September cover is a Chilean abode (technically, a trio of abodes) designed for three siblings. Each of the individual living spaces is capped with fiberglass shells that create a series of contemplative spaces that serve different functions for each family. From Santiago we head to the outskirts of Guadalajara, Mexico, where a house with another distinctive roofline—this time a series of jagged pitched peaks—tops a family home centered around a sprawling rubber tree. Farther north, two urban dwellings in the U.S., one in Miami and the other in Los Angeles, emphasize seamless connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces. Finally in Canada, are houses in Vancouver and Toronto that embrace innovative means of bringing abundant daylight into their interiors.
Record Houses Live! will offer readers a chance to see and hear from the architects behind some of 2025’s award-winning projects. Join them and managing editor Leopoldo Villardi for a conversation about the thoughtful integration of residences within natural and manmade surroundings, as well as strategies for sustainable and resilient design.
