AIA Elevates 134 Members to College of Fellows

By Jenna M. McKnight
March 2, 2010

11 international architects also receive honor

The American Institute of Architects has elevated 134 association members to its College of Fellows, an honor that recognizes architects who have made a notable contribution to the profession and to society. Fewer than 2,900 of the association’s 83,000 members are fellows.

Architects who have been AIA members for at least 10 years are eligible. Candidates are nominated within one of five categories (see below).

Serving on this year’s jury were: Chair, Allan W. Kehrt, FAIA, KSS Architects; Henry C. Alexander, Jr. FAIA, Rizo, Carreno & Partners; Jeffrey A. Huberman, FAIA, Gantt Huberman Architects; Paula J. Loomis, FAIA, US Army Corps of Engineers; Robert D. Loversidge, FAIA, Schooley Caldwell Associates; Gregory S. Palermo, FAIA, Iowa State University; and Jim W. Sealy, FAIA, Jim Sealy Architect/Consultant.

The AIA’s 2010 Honorary Fellows also have been announced. According to the AIA, “honorary fellowship is bestowed on architects of esteemed character and distinguished achievements who are neither U.S. citizens nor U.S. residents, and who do not primarily practice architecture within the domain of the Institute.” This year’s honorary fellows were chosen by the aforementioned jury, with the addition of Chair, Marilyn J. Taylor, FAIA, of Skidmore Owings & Merrill, and Michael Lischer, FAIA, of Beaconsfield Buckinghamshire.

The 2010 fellows will be honored at an investiture ceremony this June during the AIA convention in Miami.
